Making an Entrance

A distinctive period decor for a property
should begin at the front door...

But traditional designs offer not only outside
doorknobs, knockers and letterboxes,
but also handles and fingerplates to add style
to your internal doors.

Victorian Desk Lamps

You can re-create the feel of a Victorian study with the right
furniture and decor, and just a few well-chosen fittings.

Do you want to create an old-fashioned study?

Somewhere you can retreat to? Away from the cares of the day, and the endless distractions of television?

The right desk and chair, a traditional patterned carpet and wallpaper, old-fashioned prints on the walls, shelves of polished wood heavy with books - all these are, of course, important ingredients of the mood.

But Mr Kerrison believes the final touch is the right lamp.

The original Victorian designs were often oil lamps. But many modern reproductions are available as electric lamps, from lighting specialists. With their brass bodies, and shades often made of glass, they throw a warm light onto the desktop.

Switch off the main room light, settle down  -  and it's as if you're enclosed in that little pool of lamplight, shutting out for a while all the distractions of the outside world.
